Brief:

Develop a project from a passion out side of design.
Chosen passion : Snowboarding

Solution:

Cadence is my personal brand for a hypothetical snowboard company. While I ride, I notice a constant theme of rhythm whether it be my heartbeat, frequency of turns, my breathing, or pitter patter of fresh snow. The goal of this brand to visualize that.

Inspired by sound waves and mountains, this brand is is a modern take on usual grungy snowboard identities. Repetition and flow are expressed in the visuals while maintaining a clean and distinguishable identity.

 
 

 
 

1. Branding:

The logo represents the two peaks of Mt. Baker and Mt. Shuksan. I had the fortune to ride in one of the best places in North America so I wanted to pay homage to the two mountains. The repeated lines enforce my rhythmic theme and act as an abstraction of sound waves and freshly groomed ski runs. I pulled colors from 90’s ski attire and graphic elements from trail maps.

3. Animation:

From personal experience, purchasing a snowboard can seem complex and overwhelming considering the vast amount of configurations available. To combat this problem, I developed a short educational video on basic board characteristics, specifically shape and profile.
